For
those of you that are interested in more than just fragging in the TRIBES
Universe, we have a new treat for you in the form of the TRIBES
Roleplaying Rules! Master storyteller Blake "Hexabolic"
Hutchins has crafted another great addition to the TRIBES Universe on
the heels of the now infamous Firetruce Forums! So be sure to pick up
this little tidbit of TRIBES History! Also, The Son's
of Thunder are hosting this very item on their page, and I whole heartedly
reccomend checking their site out. They have most of the history and roleplaying
information from Mr. Hutchins, as well as a huge section of thier own
little piece of infamy! Check them both out!

If
you are at all breathing, then you know that this year's E3 will have
some awesome footage from the upcoming sequel to TRIBES, TRIBES 2. Well
Stomped.Com has decided to see what
the gaming world wants to see at E3, so they started this keen Poll!
(And they were kind enough to place TRIBES 2 in said poll) So go out there
and let those people at Stomped know how fanatically obsessed we TRIBES
fans are for out game! Also, if that isn't incentive enough, there are
pictures of booth babes by the poll, so got for the babes, but vote for
the TRIBES! Now I have to go and try and erase the memory of that last
sentence from my memory...

Less
than a month since we opened our doors and already we have over 170 people
registered on our site. Why? The answer is simple - we have the features
you want on a Tribes website. Our latest addition is the Ratings section,
where opinions are voiced about the Tribes-related things that matter
the most to you, the hard-core Tribes player. And, because only Registered
members are able to rate anything, you know that the results have at least
some validity to them! [Grin] Come on over to http://www.altus.net/top
and see why we're the fastest growing Tribes site on the net!

Well,
it is Groundhogs day, and I thought I would give a little state of the
union. (Please Stop Clapping) Basically, Things here in TRIBES land have
been very busy! I have been working my little ankles off, and don't have
a ton to show as of yet, but there are big things on the horizon... like
the sun. Anyway, today, I came to work and thought I would like to answer
some questions that people may have. Number one, Beta testing. I get about
seventy or so requests a day, some much more animated and fun than others,
but requests none the less. What I want to say is this, unless you are
sending messages with thousands of dollars, or blackmail pics, we can't
tell you if you will be on the beta team, because we aren't ready yet.
Don't worry, it won't sneak up on you. We will announce the search for
TRIBES 2 beta testers to the free world when we are ready. Right now,
we are too busy worrying about getting a a game made to beta test. So
to answer some generic questions:
No, I don't know when we will start Beta
No, I can't decide who does Beta testing
No, We aren't trading Beta privileges for beer
Yes, I can be bought
So if you have a question that isn't answered above, please, hold on to
it and send it when we announce a Beta date or at least have more information
on the process.
As for the newest TRIBES 2 Armor, we will be releasing those soon, so
keep a heads up! They will not be here first, so keep your eyes peeled,
and we will let you know when they surface! Oh, and they are awesome!
Well, I gotta go to lunch, and actually, I am sick of talking, so I will
see you all later. And remember, if you ever play against me in a game,
be gentle... I am terrible!

Developer's Week at GameSpy
is Huge Success |
January
31, 2000
|
|
|
GameSpy's
"Developer Week" wrapped up today with a phenominal essay from Valve Software's
Marc Laidlaw. Entitled, "Strength of Character," his essay discusses the
challenges of creating meaningful characters in computer/video games.
He uses some examples from Half-Life, but the essay is geared toward the
interactive entertainment industry as a whole. "Every advance [in gaming]
seems to draw attention to a deficiency. Mouths move, but eyes don't blink.
Heads turn, but hands look like oven mitts. Creating real characters,
strong enough to compete with the memorable figures in film and literature,
may be the biggest challenge facing us if we are to truly entertain a
wide new audience..." he says. Marc Laidlaw is a novelist and was the
writer for Half-Life. Article URL: http://www.gamespy.com/articles/devweek_r.shtm
This ends the first ever GameSpy Developer Week. In case you missed it,
here were the other essays in the series: Introductions and Overview:
http://www.gamespy.com/articles/devweek_a.shtm
Tim Sweeney of Epic Games: "A Critical Look at Programming Languages"
http://www.gamespy.com/articles/devweek_b.shtm
Greg Borrud, Pandemic Studios. "The Future of Real-Time Strategy." http://www.gamespy.com/articles/devweek_h.shtm
Rich Carlson, Looking Glass Studios. "The History of Computer Games (Part
I)." http://www.gamespy.com/articles/devweek_j.shtm
Graeme Devine, id Software. "Persistence." (A look at the current persistent

January
31, 2000
|
|
|
Hey
everyone, sorry I've been away from my site for so long. I've been doing...
stuff.... errm, on to the update. T_SCFE V(5.0) has been released! NEW
in V!!! 1. Ooops! I didn't have the \Original subdirectory under \Stations\
(like I said in BitmapInfo.txt) after all. Sorry! It's there now. 2. Real
nice skinning interface now. Check out \Skins\Templates\Templates.txt
for the lowdown on editable skins. 3. I changed my company name from Xiphos
Systems to Flammable Technologies, that has nothing to do with Sciffy(T_SCFE),
but hey, I DID change the company name info in the executable. 4. There
is no fourth update. Let's skip to five. 5. The about box has new colors!
Woohooo! 6. Emblems and such added to \Team Skins\ - Check out the directory
and/or BitmapInfo.txt 7. Nice Skins included! It may not seem like much,
but hey, it's an update, and I fixed some stuff, added new stuff, and
other stuff... alot of stuff, huh? pick it up at http://www.planetstarsiege.com/taeralis/T_SCFE/
ALSO, while I'm here, I'm gonna ask for a bit of email. Does anyone out
there have any ideas on new programs that would be helpful to the Tribes
community? C'mon, give me yer ideas. Fill my inbox! -Taeralis

Interview From SoT Land... |
January
31, 2000
|
|
|
Tsayadin.com
right now is playing host to a unique Interactive Interview with Dynamix
Head Writer, Blake Hutchins. Topics covered include roleplaying, player
input, and future meta-plot development. Here's a snippet:
Tsayadin.com-
Could you give the folks an idea of what your current vision for the meta-plot
is?
Hexabolic-
Well, the BioDerms will invade in Tribes 2. It's a conflict that is so
huge it might spill over into Tribes 3. The Firetruce will likely become
an ongoing institution in light of the war. Atmosphere-wise, the wilderzone
will become a much darker place, riven by war and death on a scale not
seen in centuries. The social structures and political hierarchies are
going to be smashed and rebuilt. In short, the wilderzone stands on the
edge of a true Dark Age. I'm going to emphasize the humanity and the strength
of spirit that keeps people going. It should be epic and ultimately a
story of hope, the "lanterns in the night" kind of theme.
To
see more of this interview, and to participate yourself, simply stop by
the Atsārāh at Tsayadin.com and
look into the Interactive Interview forum. The forum is private and you
must be a registered user in order to participate. If you are not currently
registered you can do so and your status will be updated as soon as possible
with permissions for the Interactive Interview Forum.

shunning this fine lad. Thanks, and all complaints can be sent to Dave
